Maldives, 19 October 2026 - Altus Oil & Gas Malaysia Sdn. Bhd. (AOGM) has been awarded a contract by the Government of Maldives to develop 11 ice plants across the islands, supporting efforts to strengthen fisheries infrastructure and improve access to ice for local fishing communities.
The agreement was signed by the Ministry of Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources of Maldives, represented by State Minister Mohamed Muththalib, and AOGM represented by Directors Vijay K. Pillai and Mohammad Taufik bin Othman.
Under the agreement, AOGM will undertake the construction, installation, testing, and commissioning of the plants. Each facility is designed to produce up to 30 tonnes of ice per day and provide 50 tonnes of ice storage capacity, helping address the demand for ice during peak fishing periods.
The facilities will be established in Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Kulhudhuffushi and Hulhudheli in Haa Dhaalu Atoll, Komandoo in Shaviyani Atoll, Gaafaru in Kaafu Atoll; Rasdhoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll, Muli in Meemu Atoll, Maamendhoo, Nilandhoo and Vilingili in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and Rathafandhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
The initiative responds to challenges faced by fishermen in accessing ice during favourable fishing seasons. By expanding the availability of ice closer to fishing communities, the new facilities are expected to help reduce the time and travel required to obtain supplies and support the preservation of fresh catches.
The contract is expected to be completed within six months, according to the project announcement.
“This project represents an important opportunity for Altus Oil & Gas Malaysia to apply our project execution and logistics capabilities to infrastructure that supports local communities. We are proud to contribute to an initiative that aims to strengthen the Maldives’ fisheries sector, and we look forward to working closely with the Ministry and local stakeholders to deliver the project in line with the agreed requirements.” said Mohammad Taufik Othman, Managing Director of Altus Malaysia.
The project reflects AOGM capabilities in coordinating complex, multi-location projects, integrating equipment supply, transportation, installation and commissioning to meet operational requirements across geographically dispersed locations.
