Challenge

Altus Oil & Gas Malaysia was entrusted by our client to remove and dispose of two massive quay cranes within a tight timeframe. The project came with several challenges:

  • Technical complexity: The cranes’ immense size and structure demanded highly specialised heavy lift techniques.
  • Operational constraints: The works were carried out in a fully operational port with restricted space and constant traffic flow, requiring strict coordination and risk management.
  • Time sensitivity: The cranes had to be removed in less than 25 days to make way for the arrival of new equipment.

Altus’ Solution

With decades of experience in complex project logistics and heavy lift operations, Altus designed a safe and efficient execution plan:

  • Innovative methodology: The cranes were removed in their existing condition using the jacking and skidding method, ensuring stability and control.
  • Safety-first execution: A detailed method statement was developed covering lifting sequence, equipment mobilisation, traffic management, and stringent safety protocols.
  • Collaborative approach: Close coordination with the port authority ensured uninterrupted port activities throughout the operation.

The Outcome

  • Completed in 20 days – ahead of the deadline.
  • Zero incidents – demonstrating Altus’s uncompromising safety standards.
  • Operational continuity – berths were handed back on schedule, enabling seamless installation of new cranes.

This project showcases Altus Oil & Gas Malaysia’s ability to deliver complex, large-scale heavy lift operations with precision, speed, and uncompromising safety. By combining engineering expertise with rigorous project management, Altus helps clients minimise downtime, risk, and keep critical infrastructure projects moving forward.
